Boxing back at Boardwalk Hall
What Is It: Atlantic City hosts a full night of HBO World Championship Boxing tonight at historic Boardwalk Hall. The main event features Antonio DeMarco, the WBC lightweight world champion, defending that title against an undefeated challenger, Adrien Broner.
What To Expect: But there's another big-time fight on this card, as two highly ranked heavyweights - Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell and Johnathon Banks - fight it out for the NABO championship currently held by Mitchell. And that comes after a packed evening of undercard action.
Event Info: Tickets range from $25 to $200. Fights start at 6 p.m., and the headliners duke it out at 10:30 p.m. in a fight running live on HBO. Boardwalk Hall is at 2301 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. For more details, see
'Joy to the World' from the Jersey Shore Pops
What Is It: You can get a jump on your Christmas spirit tonight, thanks to the Jersey Shore Pops. The Pops' last concert of the year, at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center, features the music of the holiday season plus some Broadway-style favorites added in as gifts.
What To Expect: The soloist on "Joy to the World" is Jacklyn Buckingham, a singer with Broadway experience. The program includes a new arrangment of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" by the Pops' conductor, Linda Gentille, plus many more of the greatest hits of the Christmas season.
Event Info: Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the Middle Township PAC, off Exit 10 of the Garden State Parkway. Tickets are $25 to $40; student and group seats are $22. For tickets or more details, see jerseyshorepops.org or call 800-838-3006.
Cape May gets lit
for the season
What Is It: Cape May starts its Christmas early with tonight's lighting of the tree at the Emlen Physick Estate, the historically restored mansion that's the unofficial capital of the Victorian town. And Cape May knows how to do Christmas right - and to draw crowds with its celebration of the season.
What To Expect: There's much more to this party than the dramatic lighting of the tree. Look for Santa to show up, with help from local fire trucks, plus free, self-guided tours of the Physick Estate from 6 to 8 p.m.. plus refreshments.
Event Info: The tree will light up its world at 7 p.m. Free, but visitors are welcome to bring donations of food-bank items. The Physick Estate is at 1048 Washington St., Cape May. Free shuttle 5 to 9 p.m. between the mansion and the Washington Street Mall information booth. For more details, see capemaymac.org or call 609-884-5404.
'Annie' at Millville's Levoy Theatre
What Is It: The Off Broad Street Players bring a perennial Broadway classic, "Annie," back to life at the newly reborn Levoy Theatre in Millville's arts district.
What To Expect: Most of us know what "Annie" is all about by now, but it's still fun to see this story of a Depression-era but irrepressible orphan roll crookedly into a happy ending, complete with her lovable pooch, Sandy. And yes, the sun will come out - tonight and again tomorrow, when there's a matinee.
Event Info: Showtimes are 8 p.m. today and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Levoy, 126 N. High St., Millville. Tickets cost $20 for adults or $14 for seniors and students. For more details, see levoy.net or call 856-327-6400.
