Gospel Christmas concert in Middle Township
What Is It: Ernie Haase and Signature Sound is a southern gospel group with a national reputation, and almost 20 albums to its credit. The quartet comes to the Middle Township Performing Arts Center tonight to play a special Christmas show.
What To Expect: Think of gospel tunes and Christmas carols with a bit of southern twang to them. But Haase and his fellow singers know their way around South Jersey too - the group played in Middle Township last year, so they're old favorites for some locals.
Event Info: Showtime is 7:30 p.m. at the Middle Township PAC, 212 Bayberry Drive, Cape May Court House. Tickets are $25. For more details, call 609-463-1924.
Christmas light extravaganza at Millville racetrack
What Is It: A Cumberland County Christmas tradition brings new life - with old lights - to the New Jersey Motor-sports Park in Millville. The Meischke Christmas Wonder-land of Lights, which features more than a quarter-million Christmas lights, is open tonight and four nights a week through December at the racetrack.
What To Expect: The wonderland grew for more than 40 years at the home of Chick Meischke, in Maurice River Township. The NJMP agreed to host the display last year, following Meischke's death in 2010, and has kept alive the tradition of using the light show to raise money for good causes. The beneficiary is Make-A-Wish New Jersey.
Event Info: Wonderland of Lights is open 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday to Sunday through Dec. 30 at NJMP's Finish Line Pub, 8000 Dividing Creek Rd., Millville. Tickets are $5, or $2 for kids ages 3 to 12; younger children are free. A portion of the price goes to charity. For more details, see NJMP.com or call 856-327-8000.
Gladys Knight at Tropicana
What Is It: They don't call Gladys Knight the "Empress of Soul" for nothing. The singer has a string of hits going back 40 years or more, and including some of the classics of pop music over those years.
What To Expect: You know the tunes that made Knight famous, from "Midnight Train to Georgia" to "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" to "If I Were Your Woman." But Knight is known for her dancing too, especially since her time on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" this year.
Event Info: Knight starts tonight at 9 at the Tropicana Casino and Resort's Showroom, 2831 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Tickets run from $45 to $85. For more details, see tropicana.net or call 800-345-8767.
