Nicole Gaffney, a personal chef from Brigantine, has been selected as a contestant on the cooking competition “Food Network Star.”

Gaffney is a 2002 graduate of Egg Harbor Township High School and attended The Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College.

During the show, participants compete for a chance to host a Food Network show. The challenges are judged by Bobby Flay, Alton Brown, Giada DeLaurentiis and celebrity guest judges. The contestants are rated on not only the food they prepare, but also on the on-camera performance.

According to a biography on her website, Gaffney has worked in modeling and has hosted the Philadelphia television shows "Best of the Best" and "The Chef's Kitchen."

The new season of “Food Network Star” kicks off on June 1.
