Witt retrospective

at Noyes Museum

What Is It: Pat Witt, a Millville-based artist known as the "Wetlands Painter," has a show that will run through May 26 at the Noyes Museum of Art in Galloway Township. "Art Spirit," as the show is called, covers more than four decades of Witt's work and life.

What To Expect: Witt is a South Jersey native who has spent more than half a century painting her local area, but she also spent some of her early career in an artist's colony on Ossabaw Island, N.C. The exhibit includes not only her paintings from that remote island, but also journal entries and details of the conditions she found there. Witt may be best known around Millville as founder of The Barn Studio of Art, the teaching facility she started in 1962 with just three students; it has now taught generations of local artists.

Event Info: The Noyes Museum is at 733 Lily Lake Rd., off Route 9 in the Oceanville section of Galloway Township. Open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors.
