Sweet and lite
We already had Dan-non's Oikos Greek (strained) yogurt in both nonfat (120-calorie) and "traditional" (160-calorie) versions, both sweetened with sugar and fructose. Now they've added Dan-non Light & Fit nonfat Greek yogurt, sweetened with fructose, sucralose and acesulfame potassium. It contains 80 calories.
More or less simultaneously, Yoplait has a new Greek version with 100 calories; it's sweetened with sugar, sucralose and acesulfame potassium.
Yoplait is taking no chances on the loyalty of consumers of regular yogurt; it now offers Simplait ("just 6 simple ingredients").
In the strawberry version, those ingredients are: cultured pasteurized Grade A milk, strawberries, sugar, cornstarch, vegetable juice (for coloring) and natural flavor. That's whole milk, so Simplait's 6-ounce tub contains 7 grams of fat and 200 calories.
Also new from Yoplait is Fruplait, which is different from regular Yoplait. According to the box, Fruplait contains "2X the fruit of the leading yogurt" - and you can see it, and it isn't all on the bottom.
Wine of the Week
2011 Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas Blanc
Region: Paso Robles
Price: $18 to $22
Style: Crisp and aromatic
What it goes with: Shrimp, seafood pasta and risotto
Patelin is the name Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles gave their newish line of Rhone-style white and red sourced from their own and neighbors' grapes. By blending their grapes with those of their neighbors, Tablas Creek can produce this terrific Rhone-style white at a great price for the quality. Fer-mented in stainless steel, the wine is crisp and aromatic, with aromas of white peach and honeysuckle. It's not shy, and it has an appealing minerality.
