Longport Media is offering a holiday gift for listeners – plus a little tradition – with several programs that are certainly worth listening to and will undoubtedly get you in the festive spirit.

“Yes Virginia,” produced by Longport Media Program Director Paul Kelly and Longport Media President Dave Coskey, includes Jackson T. Chase offering the intro and Tom Lamaine reading the main story. There are actually two versions offered, with Kelly’s two daughters Lauren and Jamie trading the role of Virginia. “Yes, Virginia” is offered four times daily on KOOL-FM 98.3 and WOND-AM 1400, until Christmas Eve, when it will be broadcast hourly through Christmas Day.

Weather expert Dan Skeldon will track Santa Claus’ arrival on Christmas Eve every 30 minutes from 6 p.m. to midnight on Christmas Eve on WOND.

Finally, WOND is also broadcasting former news director Michael Schurman’s read of his “Christmas Story” that he produced for the station in 1991. It is also being offered four times a day on WOND and KOOL until it is offered hourly on Monday and Tuesday.

“We decided last year that with WOND being one of the legacy radio stations in the market that starting some holiday traditions was a must,” Coskey said. “There are things that I remember as a kid that still leave an impression on me to this day; the same with my kids. We’d drive on Christmas Eve from Avalon to my parents’ house in Camden County. My kids couldn’t wait to hear ‘Yes, Virginia’ and the weather people tracking Santa on KYW Newsradio as we drove. Our stations are live and local. We’ve tried to do things that made an impression on me as a child. I’m hoping that we might now do the same thing now to others.”
