Jazz education in Ocean City

What It Is: A program called "The Jazz Vocalist... From Melody to Scatting" is part of the continuing Somers Point Jazz Society Education Series today at the Ocean City Free Public Library.

What To Expect: Each vocalist - Denise Montana, Paul Jost of Vineland and Gina Roche, at right, of Atlantic City - presents through discussion and performance some of the styles and renditions of his or her favorite jazz singers of the past and present, as well as presenting their own vocal stylings and musical personalities. Melody, lyrical interpretation and scatting will be the mode of the performances. The vocalists will be joined by pianist Dean Schneider, bassist Rich Kurtz and drummer Vic Stevens.

Event Info: The program runs 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at the library, 1735 Simpson Ave. The session is free. For more information, visit spjazz.org
