Giusseppe Verdi in Ocean City - as lecture subject
In English, Giusseppe Verdi would be known as Joe Green. But in Italian opera circles, he is famed as one of the great composers in history, the creator of such lasting masterpieces as "Aida," "La Traviata" and "Rigoletto." This month -the 200th anniversary of his birth - Verdi is the subject of the regular series of classical music lectures by Paul Mack Somers, of the Bay Atlantic Symphony. Somers, a composer himself and music writer and educator, does his Verdi study this morning at the Ocean City Free Public Library.
If You Go: Free. The talk runs 10:30 a.m. to noon and includes recorded examples of Verdi's music. Somers speaks in room 110 of the library, 1735 Simpson Ave., Ocean City. For more details, seebayatlanticsymphony.org or call 609-399-2434.
