Southside Johnny makes up for lost time

Who Are They: Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were scheduled to play at the newly restored Levoy Theatre in Millville in January, but had to call out sick at the last minute. These good old Jersey boys are set to be back in town tonight, and tickets to that cancelled show will be honored.

What To Expect: Southside Johnny came out of the same Asbury Park music scene that spawned rock legend Bruce Springsteen - who has played and recorded with Johnny and the Jukes over the years. This band has also covered some of The Boss' tunes, but Southside has his own stable of hits too, including the party-rockin' favorite "I Don't Want to Go Home."

Event Info: The music gets going 8 p.m. at the Levoy Theatre, 126-130 N. High St., Millville. Tickets are $39.50 and $44.50. For more details, call 856-327-6400 or see levoy.net

'The Complete Works

of William Shakespeare'

What Is It: If you always wanted to see every one of Shakespeare's plays, this is your chance to do it - in just an hour and a half or so. Yes, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" runs through all 37 of The Bard's productions in a breakneck 97 minutes at the historic Eagle Theatre.

What To Expect: Now if you want to make sure each play is given its due weight and reverence, this might not by your pick. Because "Abridged" makes Shakespeare fast and funny - so fast, the producers warn it's "not recommended for ... people inclined to motion sickness." Be warned, and be ready to laugh.

Event Info: This unusual take on Shakespeare opens tonight and continues through much of March at the Eagle Theatre, 208 Vine St., Hammonton. Tickets are $23.50 to $28.50. Showtime is 8 p.m. today and Saturday. For complete performance schedule through March 23 or tickets, call 609-704-5012 or see theeagletheatre.com

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in Vineland

Who Are They: These guys are country-rock legends. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been around for almost half a century, and had a breakthtrough hit almost that long ago with "Mr. Bojangles," their cover of the classic Jerry Jeff Walker tune.

What To Expect: The Nitty Gritty boys also broke new ground in 1972 with "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," a big production that brought these long-haired, rock-influenced kids together with such country and bluegrass purists as Doc Watson and Earl Scruggs. Sure, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band still plays some of those classic songs - original member Jimmie Fadden promises "a roadmap of the Dirt Band's history" in the show.

Event Info: Showtime is 8 p.m. at the Landis Theater, 800 E. Landis Ave., Vineland. Tickets are $40 and $48. For more details, all 856-691-1121 or see landistheater.com
