Polar bear plunges

What Is It: A New Year's Day tradition that draws thousands of people into the chilly Atlantic Ocean, annual Polar Bear Plunges, will be taking place today in Atlantic City, Brigantine, Margate and Ventnor.

What To Expect: In Atlantic City, participants are being asked to make a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America. In Brigantine, the 13th annual Polar Bear Plunge benefits Fisher House, a top-rated charity that provides housing and transportation to wounded military members and their families. For the Margate Polar Bear Plunge, sweatshirts and T-shirts commemorating the event will be sold at Robert's Place, 7807 Atlantic Ave. Last year, the plunge in Ventnor attracted 1,200 divers and close to the same amount of spectators.
