Annual marbles tournament in Wildwood

What Is It: The National Marbles Championship is back on the beach in Wildwood for the 89th year. The tradition-laden tournament takes place in "Ringer Stadium," off the Boardwalk at Wildwood Avenue.

What To Expect: The competitors win and lose their marbles for four days starting today - and the organizers say the tournament will involve more than 1,200 games before the champs are formally crowned Thursday. The competing kids, ages 8 to 14, have won local and regional tournaments to reach the major leagues of marbles in Wildwood; here, their winnings can include college scholarships and other valuable prizes and awards.

Event Info: The National Marbles Tournament starts 8 a.m. today and runs through Thursday. Free for spectators. For details, call 800-992-9732 or see nationalmarblestournament.org
