MILLVILLE - It was below freezing on a mid-week night when we went to Gina's, but the frigid weather didn't keep customers away. This charmingly decorated restaurant is pretty small, housing less than a dozen tables, but it is big in other ways, which is why, no doubt, we had to pass some time until we were seated.
Previous home to a Mexican restaurant and a uniform supply company before that, the building at 375 S. Main St. in Pleasantville now houses El Rancho del Pollo serving Colombian cuisine.
SOMERS POINT - For years, we have been fascinated by the red brick and wood structure located at 800 Bay Ave. in Somers Point. Something about the building with its many interesting architectural details demands your immediate attention. Maybe its the wrap-around porch that leads to the comfortable foyer, or maybe the sweeping vistas extending out to the barrier islands, but the building definitely has a personality all its own. Several restaurateurs have tried and eventually failed at making a go of it in this very same spot. Hard to believe, since the location has so much going for it. Restaurant concepts are much more fleeting than sturdy structures. Through several semi-successful concepts, the now simply named 800 Bay Restaurant & Bar, may prove to be the one that finally succeeds.
Everyone has a favorite go-to Italian restaurant, and there is certainly no shortage of them. They're all pretty good, too. Most of the menus we find offer standard fare we've become accustomed to: an array of pasta dishes with all kinds of sauces, "homemade" specialties such as lasagna and gnocchi, plus seafood, chicken and veal entrees prepared every which way you can imagine. This is what we expect and look forward to.
ABSECON- If your idea of a pub is simply a bar that also serves some food, you might want to browse through the menu at Skelly's Hi Point Pub, but make sure you have a few extra minutes.

Everything about our visit to this restaurant seemed familiar. As my guest and I slowly drove along winding East Lacey Road, I knew I had been there before, especially when we approached the building that sits along the river at the end of the street. In fact, I had been there five years ago to review this restaurant when it was called Southwinds (the marina where it's located is still referred to as Southwinds).
Visually, Fin at the Tropicana Casino and Resort is stunning. Overlooking the ocean, the former Wellington Steakhouse has been transformed into a chic seaside oasis. No expense was spared to create an environment that whisks you away from the tumult of the casino floor to a place that oozes luxurious tranquility. With a color scheme of soft sea blues and greens, every facet of the decor is exquisite, from floor-to-ceiling mosaic tiled columns to stylish glass charger plates and blue goblets set on white-clothed tables. A jazzy soundtrack adds an extra touch of panache.
BRIGANTINE - Chinese restaurants have become as common as Italian restaurants in our area, and Japanese restaurants, especially hibachi grills, are hot on their trails. This is not a bad thing, but it makes visiting those restaurants a little less exotic than it used to be.
There are many reasons to reserve Ram's Head Inn in Galloway for a special occasion. Over and over, it's been referred to as the most romantic restaurant in the area. But whether you're looking for romance or not, you can't help but feel its effect by the time you leave.
ATLANTIC CITY - We had the feeling we had been here before. We had, in fact, dined at the same table near the window, in another incarnation when it was still Corbin's on Melrose Avenue, one of our very first review restaurants. There was something familiar about the artwork, three squiggly mirrors and some candle sconces on the wall that evoked the memories. A quick survey out the window revealed an empty lot, an empty Boardwalk and a glimpse of ocean waves. Not much seemed to have changed at this end of the island, other than new ownership of the property, now called Kelsey and Kim's Southern Cafe.
WEYMOUTH TOWNSHIP - You have to be of a certain age to remember when the trip to the Jersey shore from Philadelphia could only be made through a series of numbered roads and "shortcuts" through the Pine Barrens along winding backwoods blacktop. The watering holes and eateries that flourished along those old byways are now gone for the most part. Just past the intersection of Routes 40 and 50 in Mays Landing sits Merrill's Colonial Inn, in a green and white wooden building from another era, with a homestyle menu and a familiar atmosphere from a simpler time and place. And just like going home for dinner, mom is busy in the kitchen and daughter is out front clearing tables.
If a golf club is not one of your first choices when you think about where you would like to have dinner, you might change your mind once you've eaten at the Legacy Restaurant at Sea Oaks County Club in Tuckerton. For an affordable, top quality meal, it's as good as any restaurant in its class.
The vacation season is very near. Where will you be spending your vacation dollars this year?
