R&B singer-songwriter, Brian McKnight, above, has been branching out beyond music. He hosted a late-night, syndicated talk and variety show in 2009 and 2010 called "The Brian McKnight Show." The multi-instrumentalist and producer performs Saturday in The Concert Venue at Harrah's Resort.

J.J. Abrams, the man behind the TV shows "Lost" and "Alias," relaunched the "Star Trek" movie franchise by directing and producing the self-titled 2009 film. Abrams returns with the highly anticipated sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness," starring Zachary Quinto, above left, and Chris Pine. The film opens Thursday. A special pre-screening for IMAX theaters only will be held at 8 and 10:45 p.m. Wednesday. It is the only nationwide release of the week.
Even if you have not been watching "American Idol," you might want to tune into the finale where Jennifer Lopez is slated to perform, and glam-rocker Adam Lambert, above, will duet with finalist Angie Miller. The "American Idol" finale airs 8 p.m. Thursday on WTXF-29.
The New York City indie rock band Vampire Weekend is one of the few recent rock groups to find commercial success. Each of its first two CDs were certified gold with sales of more than 500,00 copies. Its newest full-length release, "Modern Vampires of the City," comes out Tuesday.
