Carrie Underwood, above, turned into one of the queens of country music after winning "American Idol" in 2005. Underwood has become a multi-platinum selling recording artist and twice won the Academy of Country Music Awards' Entertainer of the Year. She performs Friday in the arena at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Ne-Yo's new CD
Grammy Award-winning R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has had four consecutive top 10 CDs. He follows up his last CD, "Libra Scale" from 2010, with his fifth full-length album, "R.E.D.," released Tuesday. "R.E.D." stands for Realizing Every Dream.
A winner of the National Humanities Medal in 2000, a new book by Barbara Kingsolver, titled "Flight Behavior: A Novel," will be released Tuesday. A restless farm wife hikes up a mountain road behind her house and sees a silent, forested valley filled with what looks like a lake of fire. When her community learns about it, people line up to judge her and her miracle.
