Treaure hunt in Cape May highlights events At The Shore Today

Hunt for buried treasure in Cape May

What Is It: The Captain Kidd Treasure Hunt is a Cape May tradition - today will mark the 50th anniversary of this kid-centered event. The famed pirate named Kidd leads the little kiddies to the beach and the search for buried treasure begins.

What To Expect: If this sounds like fun to your gang of pirates, don't expect them to be in a small band. This treasure hunt has been known to draw crowds of hundreds of kids ages 10 or younger, all looking for the same booty packed into little treasure chests. But don't worry, the kids are divided up into three age groups, and each group gets its own haul of goodies to hunt down.

Event Info: The event starts 1 p.m. promptly on the Cape May Promenade at Gurney Street, Cape May. The buried-treasure hunt runs between the Perry and Congress street beaches. For more details, call 609-884-9565 or see
