Wildwood Catholic High School's boys basketball team barely kept its winning streak intact Monday.

The fourth-seeded Crusaders earned their 11th straight victory in the most exciting manner possible, using some late-game, clutch performances to earn a 55-54 win over fifth-seeded Millville in the first round of the Cape-Atlantic League tournament.

With the victory, Wildwood Catholic (20-5) advanced to a semifinal matchup against top-seeded Holy Spirit on Thursday at Hammonton.

But the Crusaders couldn't celebrate until the final buzzer sounded.

Millville (17-5), displaying the grit that has made them one of South Jersey's top teams, came within inches of pulling off the upset.

Guard Khaliq Ford made one of two foul shots with four seconds left to bring the Thunderbolts within a point. Millville's Keyvon Rivera grabbed the rebound on Ford's miss, but his putback caromed off the rim as time ran out.

Millville seemed ready to take control of the game when Ford sank four foul shots after a Crusaders technical foul put them ahead 31-18 with 4:34 left in the third quarter.

But then Wildwood Catholic caught fire. Senior forward Eddie McWade scored nine points and burly center Clinton Freeman muscled through the paint for seven as the Crusaders closed the period with a 16-0 surge to put them ahead 34-31.
