Softball: Phillies honor team that beat Tri-Cape in Carpenter Cup final

The Phillies honored Delaware South - this year's Carpenter Cup softball champion - before Tuesday night's game against the Washington Nationals.

Delaware South beat Tri-Cape 5-0 in Tuesday afternoon's championship game at FDR Park in Philadelphia.

The Carpenter Cup is a double-elimination all-star tournament featuring 16 teams from New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The Phillies founded the softball tournament in 2005.

Tri-Cape consists of players from the Cape-Atlantic League and Tri-County Conference.

Tri-Cape managed just one hit in the final - a two-out, sixth-inning single by Carly Testa of St. Joseph.

Tri-Cape won four of five games to reach the final, which originally was scheduled for July 1 but was postponed until Tuesday because of rain.

Jackie DeLong of Wildwood Catholic sparked Tri-Cape during the tournament. She knocked in two runs in an 11-5 win over Berks County/Lancaster. She struck out seven in four innings to get the win a 3-2 win over Berks County/Lancaster.
