Local minor-leaguers: Darren Ford comes off disabled list, hits double and steals base for Pirates' triple-A team

Darren Ford (Vineland) came off the disabled list of the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) and went 1-for-5 (double) with a stolen base in a 6-4 loss to Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays) in the triple-A International League on Thursday.

He had not played since May 4 due to a right oblique injury.

Ford, who batted leadoff as the designated hitter, is hitting .267 with two triples, one home run, 10 runs scored, seven RBIs and 11 stolen bases in 22 games.

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 0-for-5 for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in a 6-4 win over the Jackson Generals (Mariners) in the double-A Southern League.

Szczur, who led off and played right field, is hitting .291 with two home runs, 18 RBIs, 24 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 37 games.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is scheduled to start today for the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners) against the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals) in the Class-A Midwest League.

DeCecco is 3-3 with a 2.77 ERA in seven starts. He has 30 strikeouts and 12 walks in 39 innings.

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in eight starts for the Lynchburg HillCats (Braves) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League.

He has struck out 29 and walked 19 in 45 innings. His last start was Wednesday.
