Lower Cape May Regional High School will have a new football coach next season for the first time since 2006.
Mike Wilson resigned as coach Monday after six years, citing personal reasons. Wilson's wife, Destiny, gave birth March 10 to the couple's third child, Becks Michael.
Wilson went 14-46 in six seasons with Lower Cape May. His best season was in 2010, when the Caper Tigers went 7-3 and made the South Jersey Group II playoffs.
"He was great to work with and he was absolutely great with the kids," Lower Cape May athletic director Mark Schiffbauer said in phone interview Monday. "He was a positive role model and did a lot within the community. He's been great. He just has a lot on his plate right now."
Schiffbauer said discussions about finding a replacement had just begun Monday, and the goal is to start interviewing candidates within the next week or two.
