Stefon Bowman scored on an 8-yard carry on Bridgeton High School’s third overtime possession as the Bulldogs defeated Vineland 36-30 in a Cape-Atlantic League National Conference football game Friday night.
The Bulldogs’ next game will be a South Jersey Group III playoff game.
Vineland rallied from a 30-16 deficit to tie the game on a fourth-quarter touchdown by Raequan Flowers. Quarterback Chris Atoki ran in the two-point conversion to tie the score at 30. The Fighting Clan failed to score on each of its three overtime possessions.
Bowman’s game-winning touchdown was his second score of the day. He had a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. He rushed for 142 yards.
Bridgeton quarterback Ron Williams completed three touchdowns passes — one to Anthony Janelli (8 yards), Cappadonna Miller (6 yards) and Nazir Williams (2 yards).
Vineland’s Isaiah Spencer was responsible for the Fighting Clan’s first 16 points. He scored on 30- and 16-yard runs and completed the two-point conversions for each. He finished with a game-high 172 rushing yards. Lance Bryant returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown, and Calvin Stiles had three catches for 22 yards.
