Local minor-leaguers: A.J. Holland improves to 3-1 and lowers ERA to 3.00 for Braves' high-A ballclub

A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) allowed one earned run in 52/3 innings to earn the decision for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) in a 10-3 win over the Carolina Mudcats in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League on Friday night.

Holland allowed eight hits, three runs (two unearned), while walking two and striking out one.

He improved to 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts. He has struck out 26 and walked 14 in 29 innings.

Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 2-for-3 with two walks, one run scored, one RBI and one stolen base for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in a 5-4 win over Birmingham in the double-A Southern League.

Szczur, who batted leadoff and played center field, is hitting .267 with two home runs, 13 RBIs, 22 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 31 games.

Darren Ford (Vineland) is on the disabled list of the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) with a right oblique injury.

Ford, an outfielder who last played on May 4, is hitting .271 with two triples, one home run, 10 runs scored, seven RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 21 games for the Indians in the triple-A International League.

Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 3-3 with a 2.91 ERA, 27 strikeouts and nine walks in 34 innings through six starts for the Clinton LumberKings (Seattle) in the Class-A Midwest League.

DeCecco's last start was Sunday and his next one has yet to be announced.
