Why this game is special: These two programs are among the state's best. The schools are located in the same town a few miles from each other. But the rivalry could becoming to and end. Hammonton will join the West Jersey Football League in 2014. It is not clear if the rest of the Cape-Atlantic League teams, including St. Joe, will follow. The game may not be feasible to schedule if the two schools are in different leagues.
St. Joseph update: The Wildcats are No. 1 in The Press Elite 11 and have won 26 straight games since a 35-0 loss to Holy Spirit on Oct. 1, 2010. St. Joe has been off since a Nov. 2 28-0 win over Mainland Regional. The Wildcats will host Hudson Catholic (5-4-1) in a state Non-Public I semifinal on Dec. 1.
Hammonton update: The Blue Devils have dropped three straight, including a 37-6 loss to Timber Creek in the South Jersey Group IV quarterfinals last Friday. A loss tonight and Hammonton will have its first losing season since a 2-7 mark in 1989.
