Lower Cape May Regional takes 3rd at Egg Harbor Township's Marinelli wrestling tourney of From Press staff reports

The Lower Cape May Regional wrestling team finished third with 119 points at the Arthur Marinelli Christmas Tournament at Egg Harbor Township High School on Friday.

Clearview Regional was the overall winner with 178 points. Neptune finished second. The host Eagles finished fourth.

Individually, EHT had two winners. Nigel Toussaint won the 220-pound weight class by pinning Absegami's Tiger Kirvay in 43 seconds. Shawn Bryant took the final 132-pound bout with a 5-4 decision over Lenape's Connor Gardner.

Lower Cape May had three second-place finishers - Cory Damiana at 195, Zach Valcarce at 120 and Eric Pruzinski at 106.

Damiana avenged an early season loss to Vineland's Cosby, with a 6-2 decision in the semifinals.

Ocean City had two second-place finishers - Josh Johnson at 285 and Cooper Gallagher at 170. Johnson lost a 7-5 decision to Phillip Seidle from Neptune.

Rodriguez from Vineland was second at 182-pounds. He lost by a 6-4 decision to Kingway's Billy Leone.

Overbrook Holiday Tournament

Four Hammonton High School wrestlers won their weight division as the Blue Devils team won the Overbrook Holiday Tournament with 184 points.

Bobby Frederico won at 285 pounds. David Williams pinned Woodstown's Jake Gomeringer in 35 seconds at 182 pounds. At 170 pounds, first-year wrestler Jack Hartman won 8-4 and 160-pounder Kellen Whitney won 6-5.

Brandon Beebe and Nico Porretta each took second, while Mike Dimeo and Scott Figueroa finished third for the Blue Devils.

Millville's Ed Shockley won 9-4 at 195 pounds as the Thunderbolts finished fourth with 115.5 points out of 10 teams.

Millville had two second-place finishers (Johan Garcia and Obie Kali) and four third-place finishers (Rico Rivera, Chad Khan, Connor Dixon and Javier Colon-Rivera).

Middle Township's John Mallett won by 8-3 decision over Hammonton's Porretta at 152 pounds. The Panthers finished fifth overall (107). Ronray Harris pinned Millville's Johan Garcia in 50 seconds for the win at 113 pounds.

Kenny Dale took second at 120 pounds and Joey Curtis finished third at 106 for Middle.

Justin Bishop led Mainland Regional with a second-place finish at 106. Garrett Ewing finished third at 138 as the Mustangs finished eighth (42).

56th Hunterdon Central Tournament

Buena Regional's Luis Rivera (113) and Nick Caporale (220) each placed fourth in their respective weight classes.

Rivera lost a 2-1 decision to Cherokee's Jimmy Goldschmidt, while Caporale lost by a major decision 10-0 to John Deveney of Notre Dame.

Ty Warren took fifth at heavyweight. Warren pinned Middlesex's Edson Flores in 2 minutes, 5 seconds.

Ronnie Hawk placed fourth at 106. He was pinned in 3:23 by Hackettstown's David Van Duyne.

At 132-pounds, Chaz Bramble won 3-1 and took fifth place in his weight class.

No team scoring is recorded at the tournament.

Mustang Classic at Brick Memorial

St. Augustine Prep's Tyler Sentman finished in third place at 170 by pinning Ocean Township's Jason Lawhon in 1:51.

Tom Gattinella (120), Edward Donahue (126) and James Bennett (182) each finished fourth in their respective weight classes.

Sentman reached the semifinals at 170 and fell by pin to Brick Memorial's Tyler Richardson in 3:05.

Hawk Classic at Manchester Township

Barnegat finished ninth in the team scoring with 48.5 points. Long Branch won with 146.5.

Frigon was Barnegat's top wrestler with a third-place finish at 220-pounds. Frigon pinned Joey Guidetti from Long Branch in 3:36. He lost in the semifinals to Tom O'Shaughnessy from Allentown 3-1 in overtime.

Four Bengals finished fourth - Jesse DeLuise (106), Chris Stoma (160), Ryan Kirk (170) and Kevin Hoffman (182).

Governor Mifflin Tournament (Pa.)

Southern Regional wrestlers Zach Wilhelm, Chris Serpico, Cody Smead and Connor Case advanced to today's semifinals, while eight other Rams are battling for third place in the consolation bouts.
