Local players compete in state girls tennis tournaments of From Press staff reports

Local high school players competed at the state girls tennis singles and doubles tournaments Saturday.

Megan Maloney of Cumberland Regional High School beat Erica Spina of Monsignor Donovan 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and lost a second-round match.

Linsey Gabris of Cedar Creek won by default over Megan Reiling of Morristown-Beard and then lost a second-round match.

Nicole Fahringer of Mainland Regional beat Margaret MacArthur of West Windsor South 3-6, 6-4 (10-3) in the first round and lost a second-round match.

Katie Garthaus of Egg Harbor Township beat Erin Congiano of Ramsey 6-3, 6-0 in the first round and lost a second-round match.

Anna Prestera of Barnegat lost to Moorestown’s Shelby Burke 7-5, 6-3 in the first round.

Amanda Goff of Sacred Heart, Erin Chard of Millville and Emily Delbury of Pinelands Regional also lost first-round matches.

In the doubles tournament in Hamilton Township, EHT’s Maria Ibarra and Christine Pao won by default over Gina Finelli and Devon Flinn of Morristown-Beard in the first round. It was their only match of the day.

Cumberland’s Karen Johnson and Melanie Mayhew lost to Lindsay Eberhart and Allison Hubert of Princeton in the first round.
