Local minor-leaguers: Matt Szczur goes 1-for-4, scores a run; Darren Ford also goes 1-for-4
Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 1-for-4 with a run scored for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in a 5-2 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (Dodgers) in the double-A Southern League on Sunday.
Szczur, who led off and played center field, is hitting .297 with 40 runs scored, 33 RBIs and 16 stolen bases in 71 games for the Smokies, who are 36-38.
Darren Ford (Vineland) went 1-for-4 and was caught stealing for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a 6-2 loss to the Charlotte Knights (White Sox) in the the triple-A International League.
Ford, who batted ninth as the designated hitter, is batting .224 with 15 runs scored, 11 RBIs and 16 stolen bases on 21 attempts in 38 games for the Indians (51-27).
Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 5-6 with a 4.50 ERA in 14 starts for the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners) in in the Class-A Midwest League.
His last start, a no-decision, was Saturday night.
A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is 3-4 with a 4.56 ERA in 14 starts this season for the Lynchburg HillCats (Braves) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League.
His next start has not yet been announced.
