Local minor-leaguers: Vineland's Darren Ford goes 2-for-4 in loss for Pirates' triple-A Indianapolis team
Darren Ford (Vineland) went 2-for-4 and got caught trying to steal second base for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a 7-1 loss to Lehigh Valley in a triple-A International League game Friday night.
Ford, who played right field and batted leadoff, is hitting .262 with nine runs scored, five RBIs, three triples and 10 stolen bases in 20 games.
Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) went 0-for-5 with a walk for the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) in an 11-inning, 3-2 loss to Mississippi in the double-A Southern League. Szczur was hitting .267 with two homers, 20 runs scored, 12 RBIs, 10 walks and eight stolen bases in 26 games.
A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is scheduled to start tonight for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) against the visiting Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals) in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League.
Holland is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA with 22 strikeouts, 11 walks in 26.2 innings through five starts.
Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 2-3 with a 3.21 ERA and 23 strikeouts and nine walks in 28 innings through five starts for the Clinton LumberKings (Seattle) in the Class-A Midwest League. DeCecco won his last start Monday, and his next start has not been announced. The LumberKings were rained out Friday night.
