The Southern Regional High School boys volleyball team defeated two-time defending state champion Fair Lawn and also beat Old Bridge in a tri-match Saturday.

The Rams (23-3) won both matches 2-1. Southern dropped its first set against host Fair Lawn (22-3) 23-25, but rebounded with 25-18 and 25-20 wins. Fair Lawn beat Southern for the public state championship in the past two seasons. Kyle Ficken had 16 kills against Fair Lawn. Mike Gesicki added nine kills and five blocks. Luke King dished 39 assists.

Against Old Bridge (17-5), the Rams won 25-20, 21-25 and 25-23. Gesicki had three aces, 14 kills and three blocks in that match.

Ficken added 12 kills and King had 38 assists. Jake Necamp had 10 digs.
