Softball roundup: Middle Township edges Absegami in extra innings

Madeline Ellis doubled home Brittany Robertson with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Middle Township High School softball team beat host Absegami 3-2 on Friday.

Danielle Lugo led the Lions, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Sacred Heart, No. 7 in the Press Elite 11, is now 13-1.

Stephanie Healy hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning for Pinelands in the Ocean County Tournament quarterfinal game. Healy was 2-for-3.

Also for the host Wildcats, Emma Neuweiler went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Winning pitcher Naomi Stas struck out eight and walked none.

Pinelands, the No. 3 seed, travels to second-seeded Toms River East, No. 3 in The Press Elite 11, on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. semifinal game.
