Ocean City's Flynn wins two at Rowan Open

Ocean City High School junior Bridget Flynn won two events at the Rowan Open girls track and field meet at Rowan University on Friday.

Flynn won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 17.84 seconds and later won the 1,600 run in 5:00.03. She was one of three local winners in Friday's events.

Pinelands Regional's Lauren Zodl won the 3,000 run in 10:14.45. Niyah Cosme of Vineland won the emerging elite javelin with a throw of 115 feet, 4 inches.

Their performances highlighted many solid ones from local athletes.

In the 400-meter dash, Vineland's Antoniette Isekenegbe was fourth in 59.49 seconds. In the 800, Millville's Victoria Thaler was fifth (2:20.37) and Alyssa Simpkins seventh (2:22.15). In the 3,000, Ocean City's Mary Kate Brelsford was second in 10:22.17 and teammate Epiphany Grisbaum was third in 10:30.42. Noel Labb of Hammonton finished second in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.99.

In field events, Pleasantville's Shatina Squair was third in the elite javelin (124-2), followed by Millville's Ashli Weems in fourth (115-2). In the emerging elite long jump, Aaliyah Ellis of Millville was second (16-7) and Pleasantville's Leah Evans third (16-7). Absegami's Barbara Gedeon was second in the open shot put (36-4) followed by teammate Damali Smith (33-9). Aleesha Beaufils of Absegami was second in the emerging elite shot put (35-1).
