Baseball roundup: Hammonton tops Lacey in 9th in South Jersey Group III playoffs
Greg Moran hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead top-seeded Hammonton High School to a 1-0 win over Lacey Township in the opening round of the South Jersey Group III baseball playoffs Monday.
Justin Smith struck out five in a complete-game shutout for the Blue Devils.
The ninth inning began with Branon Kincaid leading off with a single.
Keith Salmon came in to run for him and advanced to second on a hit by Cris Matos.
Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, setting up the two-out single by Morano.
Kincaid and Morano were each 3-for-4 and Matos was 3-for-5.
Hammonton will play No. 9 Oakcrest at 4 p.m. on Friday in the second round.

Cody Stashak’s third hit of the game was the 100th of his career and he led the Falcons to a win over Highland Regional.
Stashak scored a run and stole a base for Oakcrest.
He also pitched a complete game, allowing one hit and striking out six.
