Baseball: Colts Neck defeats Southern Regional in first Ram Diamond Classic final

Colts Neck High School scored nine runs in the fourth inning on its way to winning the inaugural Ram Diamond Classic title on Saturday at Southern Regional.

Southern's Mark Heslin hit a two-run triple in the third inning.

Colts Neck's Jordan Gonzalez was named tournament Most Valuable Player after going 5-for-7 with two home runs and two walks in the team's two games.

Chris Starner's RBI single tied the Ram Diamond Classic semifinal game in the seventh inning before Mark Heslin singled back up the middle for the game-winning run with two outs in the inning.

Jake Galan started the winning rally with a one-out, pinch-hit double and came around to score the tying run.

All three of Pinelands Regional's hits were doubles by Cory Burke, Erik Schilling and RJ Rodriguez. Colts Neck's Jordan Gonzalez had two home runs in the Ram Diamond Classic semifinal game.

Pinelands' Cory Burke got his first win of the season by throwing a complete-game shutout in the Ram Diamond Classic consolation game. Burke gave up five hits and struck out eight. Baily Taylor was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Zach Newman was 3-for-4 for Cedar Creek.

Sophomore pitcher Sam Fiocchi improved to 9-2 with four strikeouts in the five-inning complete game. Ashley Surran doubled and finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

The host Lions, ranked fourth in The Press Elite 11, scored twice in the third inning. Danielle Lugo hit an RBI double to make it 1-0, and Lugo scored on Gabby Castellini's sacrifice fly. Teammate Kyrsten Makos went 2-for-2. Rosie LaGrotta (18-2) was the winning pitcher.

For Middle, Victoria Raffaele was 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Taylor Franchville went 2-for-3.
