Baseball roundup: Millville rallies to edge Hammonton

The Millville High School baseball team rallied for five runs in the fifth inning to gain control of the lead and held on to beat visiting Hammonton Tuesday in a Cape-Atlantic League game.

Kyle Cox struck out two and allowed one run on two hits in four innings of relief to pick up the win.

Mike Lahoud scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to center by B.J. Rivera in the top of the sixth. Mike Chontos earned the win and Austin Fotrtrell registered the save with an inning of work.

Chontos was 2-for-4 at the plate.

For Absegami, Buck Amend and Tyler Welch were each 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Kyle Eisele and Mark Whittaker each tallied two hits and two RBIs for Cedar Creek. Matt Boney struck out 11 and picked up his first win of the season.

Ocean City posted eight runs in the first inning and cruised from there. Christian Candeloro led the Red Raiders, No. 9 in the Press Elite 11, with three hits and an RBI.

Doug Schwartz tallied two hits for Middle and drove in Steven Hand for the Panthers' only run of the game.
