Baseball roundup: Ocean City advances to Group III final
From Press staff reports
The Ocean City High School baseball team scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning and beat visiting Central Regional 6-3 to advance to the South Jersey Group III final.
Ocean City, the No. 3 seed, gave up nine hits and two unearned runs to 10th-seeded Central, but held on for the win.
Ocean City won the sectional title in 2010 and returned last year before falling to Hammonton.
In the fourth inning, Christian Candeloro doubled with one out. After compiling the second out, Central Regional intentionally walked Beau Hall, setting up Kieran Tracey's two-run double. Sean Mooney then scored Tracey on a single and Mike Inacio's hard hit ground ball to shortstop was misplayed to bring in Mooney.
The Red Raiders, ranked No. 6 in the Press Elite 11, scored two more runs in the sixth on a throwing error.
Kyle Andrews earned the win with four strikeouts, while improving to 6-1.
Ocean City (23-3) will host No. 5 seed Burlington Township on Friday.
