The boys tennis teams from Southern Regional and Lacey Township high schools are tied for second place after the first day of the Ocean County Tournament on Saturday.

The Rams and Lions both have 16 points, two points behind first-place Toms River North at the event at Bay Lea Tennis Courts in Toms River.

Pinelands Regional is tied for third place with 15 points. Barnegat is tied seventh place with seven points.

Advancing to the semifinals on opposite sides of the bracket were:

• In first singles, Lacey Township's John Halliday and Southern's Brandon Gildea;

• In second singles, Lacey's Kevin Leahy and Pinelands' Chuck Poklikuha;

• In third singles, Lacey's Josh Dudas and Southern's Shjon Houser;

• And in second doubles, Southern's Mark Sullivan and Austin Bennett and Pinelands' Thomas Poklikuha and Matt Schnelker.

The event continues today at 9 a.m. in Toms River.
