Lacrosse roundup: Egg Harbor Township boys lacrosse wins first ever boys playoff game

Sal Avellino took a pass from Nick Lacovara and scored the game-winning goal with 44 seconds left in regulation for the first playoff win in school history on Saturday as No. 8 seed Egg Harbor Township High School edged No. 9 Howell 6-5 in a South Jersey Group IV first-round playoff game.

Kyler Bordonaro and Ryan King each had two goals and as assist for the Eagles. Eagles goalkeeper Christian Custodio made a number of big saves in the fourth and finished with 14 in the game.

EHT will play at top-seeded Southern Regional in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Sophomore goalie Brendan Lefanto recorded his first career shutout as top seed Southern Regional High School defeated No. 16 seed Toms River North 15-0.

Dylan Jinks scored four goals and has four assists, Al Manzo had three goals and Brendan Mullen had two goals and four assists for Southern, the No. 2 team in The Press Elite 11. The Rams advance to host Egg Harbor Township on Tuesday.

Austin Goodwin led the Braves with four goals in the game played at Richard Stockton College. Gary Albano added three goals for Absegami, and Kyle Kirvay and Dustin Guenther had two apiece. Collin Wiener made 12 saves for the winners.

Jackson Sole scored three goals for Lower, and teammate James Cella had 27 saves.
