Lacrosse: Tess Solazzo scores 200th goal, Ocean City wins Cape-Atlantic League
Ocean City High School junior Tess Solazzo scored her 200th career goal early in the first half, and the Red Raiders rolled to a 16-8 win over Mainland Regional to clinch the Cape-Atlantic League girls lacrosse title.
Solazzo, who had six goals and four assists in the game, reached the milestone with 15 minutes, 11 seconds remaining in the first half.
"She's the all-time goals and assist leader," Ocean City head coach Matt Lane said. "And you've got to give respect where it's due. She has made all those accomplishments, but at the same time it's also all the girls around her and she's aware of that."
Megan Devlin led Ocean City with seven goals and added three assists.
The Red Raiders are happy to have sole possession of the league title after sharing the CAL championship with Millville in 2011.
"This is definitely meaningful for us," Lane said. "We had a big graduating class and a lot of holes to fill, you might say, but we came together."
Casey Hanna added two goals for Ocean City and Ann Unsworth made 10 saves in goal for the win.
Jenn Eisenberg led Mainland with four goals and Anna Gordon added three.
