Softball roundup: Sacred Heart's Rosie LaGrotta gets 17th win of season

The Sacred Heart High School softball team, ranked fourth in The Press Elite 11, beat visiting Gloucester Catholic 2-0 Friday in a nonleague game. The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Danielle Lugo went 2-for-3 with a run for Sacred Heart (23-30 and started the rally in the sixth wih a single. Samantha Caterina followed with a single. Gabby Castellini hit into a force play, and Kaila Smith singled in Lugo to make it 1-0. Lindsay Dwyer singled in Castellini.

Red Bank Regional's Morgan Schroll tripled in the first inning of the Shore Conference Tournament first-round game and scored the winning run on a groundout. Red Bank's Katie Serkus pitched a one-hitter.

Pinelands pitcher Naomi Stas allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked none. Pinelands is No. 9 in The Press Elite 11.
