Softball, tennis roundup: Woodstown holds off Cedar Creek in softball playoffs
Fifth-seeded Woodstown High School withstood fourth-seeded Cedar Creek’s seventh-inning rally to defeat the Pirates in a South Jersey Group II softball quarterfinal game Sunday in Egg Harbor City.
Woodstown, which was outhit 12-4, scored four runs in the fourth inning and took a 10-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Pirates scored five runs to make it close before Woodstown got the final out.
The Pirates hit five doubles, including two by losing pitcher Cheyenne Myer.
Woodstown’s Haley Bromell pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
The game had been postponed twice, Friday due to rain and Saturday due to wet field conditions.

Middle Township High School’s Dini Ukella and Tanner Kerr won the doubles title of the South Jersey Interscholastic Championships in Vineland.
The Panthers’ duo defeated Vineland’s Darren Tomasso and Nick Mayo 7-5, 6-4.
In the semifinals earlier in the day, Tomasso/Mayo defeated Mainland Regional’s Chris Sartain and Josh Margolis 6-3, 6-3, and Ukella/Kerr defeated Hammonton’s Stevie Salvatore and Dave Donio-Enscoe 6-2, 7-5.
Moorestown’s Ryan Dickerston defeated Shawnee’s Justin Kang 6-1, 6-3 in the singles final.
