Softball roundup: St. Joseph scores two in seventh inning to beat Vineland

The St. Joseph High School softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and beat visting Vineland 2-1 on Thursday.

Winning pitcher Dominique D'Andrea gave up one hit, walked seven and struck out eight.

St. Joseph's Carly Testa had two hits, including an RBI double which brought in the winning run. Cara Owsley hit a sacrifice fly for the Wildcats, which tied the game at 1-1. Kyra Berrios followed with a single, went to second on a fielder's choice, and scored the winning run on Testa's double to right field.

Vineland's only hit was Bridgette Garvey's RBI double in the first inning. Fighting Clan pitcher Demi Murray gave up seven hits, struck out three and walked none.

Oakcrest's Jessica Liepe tripled and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Devon Francz in the top of the eighth inning.

For Holy Spirit, Brook Hallett had three hits. Winning pitcher Logan McIntosh went the distance and struck out five.

Millville's Casey Derella went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Teammates Brittany Rivera, Rachel Rivera, Corie Colliins and Devona Bates each had two hits. Thunderbolts pitcher Cassidy Gorgo scatted nine hits and struck out six.

For host A.C., Maddie Taggart went 3-for-3 and Sierra Jordan had two hits.
