The Buena Regional High School girls track and field team beat visiting Middle Township 126-13 to clinch its fifth straight Cape-Atlantic League National Conference championship. Helena Leyrer swept the hurdles for Buena while teammate Andrea Olsen won the sprints, and Casey Sturts took the high jump and pole vault.
Buena's four seniors, Leyrer, Cara Cone, Brenae Johnson and Chyna Saunders, completed four years of being undefeated in dual meets. Johnson won the shot put and Saunders captured the discus.
"I talked to the seniors about how proud I am of them that they took me on this ride for the last few years," said Stephanie Winkler, Buena's seventh-year coach. "They worked hard, and (the conference title) is a tribute to them."
Sturts, a junior, tied her school record of 10 feet in the pole vault, which she set in a 91-59 win over Pleasantville on May 7. For Middle, Yvonne Wolef won the long jump and the triple jump.
