Jiyai Shin started playing golf at the age of 11. Shin’s amateur career included victories at the 2005 KLPGA SK Invitational, the Korea Women’s Amateur Championship, Songam Amateur Championship, and the Korea Junior Championship as a member of the Korean National Team. Shin turned professional at the end of 2005. She earned Rookie and Player of the Year awards from three victories in 2006. She became the first non-LPGA member to win three events and had three additional top-10 finishes in 10 official events in 2008. Two years later Shin took over as the Rolex Rankings No. 1 and spent 16 weeks and ended the season as No. 1. In 2011 she recorded five top-10 finishes including second place at the Kia Classic.
