The joint emergency management office of Long Beach Island municipalities met yesterday and made a request for more State Police troopers to come to the island to assist with security operations, said Harvey Cedars Police Chief Thomas Preiser.

More troopers will be on the ground this morning, Preiser said.

Troopers will also be on the water assisting with security operations along with the Ocean County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities are now seeing people on the island and police don't know how they got there, but many people are wandering around, Preiser said.

Some people are coming over by boat and others are walking across the Route 72 Causeway and getting onto the island.

"There are all kinds of places to sneak in over here. Mostly people that are coming over are coming to check on their houses, but we can't have them over here yet," Preiser said.
