Flood watch, high wind warnings in effect as Sandy approaches region
A flood watch is in effect across the Garden State starting this evening through Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said in its Sunday morning advisory.
The weather service has also issued a coastal flood warning beginning at 4 p.m. today through midnight Monday.
As the state awaits the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, a high wind warning is also in place from 8 a.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Shelters are opening today in Cape May and Atlantic counties and residents of the region's barrier islands are being told to evacuate by 4 p.m. today.
