Avon-by-the-Sea

Avon-by-the-Sea, or Avon, is a seaside town north of Belmar with lots of Victorian charm. The quaint shops, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and beautiful beach make it a popular destination for a weekend vacation or a day trip. The beach is generally less crowded than Belmar's, making it a favorite spot for locals.

The quiet, non-commercial boardwalk features Victorian-style lamps and plenty of benches. It's a perfect spot to stroll, jog, or simply relax while watching the rolling surf.

The north end of the boardwalk features a pavilion with casual dining and a snack bar. The town allows food and beverages on the beach as well, so feel free to pack lunches.

The pavilion also hosts concerts, art shows, and other events throughout the summer. Concerts are held at 7:30 p.m., on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Bring a beach chair and unwind to some live music after a day in the sun. For a full schedule, visit www.avonbytheseanj.com.

Restrooms are available on Avon's boardwalk at Lincoln Avenue and Norwood Avenue. The beach entrances feature open-air showers, but there are no changing rooms available.

Parking is available for free on the street, but spaces close to the beach fill up quickly. Plan on arriving early, or be prepared to walk.

Beach badges cost $9 daily. For the season, badges are priced at $90 for those over 18 and $45 for ages 12 to 18 or for seniors ages 65 and up. Children under 12 are free. Badges can be purchased at the tag booths on the boardwalk, located at Washington Avenue, Sylvania Avenue, and Norwood Avenue.
