BACKGROUND: Step back in time and find out how southern New Jersey was once a hub of iron working. Batsto is a historic village in Wharton State Forest in the South Central Pinelands that combines nature and history.

The village explains its history and evolutions through two centuries of American industrial growth. Tour historic buildings including the grist mill, general store, blacksmith shop and wheelwright's building. There are also hiking trails and a museum to entertain the family.

INSIDER INFO: Other activities include guided canoe tours of Batsto Lake, star watching and nature hikes. Public Restrooms are located in the Visitors Center.
