BACKGROUND: Take the family for a fun day at the races. A little over an hour's drive will get you to Monmouth Park, a racetrack with a history dating back to 1870.

Every Sunday, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, is "family fun day" at the park from noon to 4 p.m. Starting "On the Green" and spreading all the way to the picnic area, you'll find clowns, face painters, live music, pony rides, a bounce house, the park's mascot, Cocoa Puff, and more.

INSIDER INFO: There is also a playground in the picnic area and an arcade on the first floor of the grandstand. Children 12 and under are always free and family fun day activities are free.

HOURS AND COST: Gates open at 11:30 a.m. and the first race is at 12:50 pm. The only exception is Haskell Day - Sunday, August 1, 2010 - when gates open at 10 a.m. and the first race is at noon. Admission and parking prices vary depending on where you sit and where you park, but grandstand admission is $3 and picnic area parking is free.
