ATLANTIC CITY - Even if the day is a washout on the beach, that doesn't mean the kids can't check out what's in the ocean - while staying completely dry.

The IMAX Theatre at Tropicana usually leans heavily toward huge Hollywood hits - for instance, "Toy Story 3" owns the giant screen for five shows a day now, starting shortly after noon.

But for kids (and parents) who prefer a little more nature in their shore days, "Wild Ocean 3D" plays at 11 a.m. most days at the IMAX. The film follows a fish migration along the coast of Africa - at times a 10-mile-long "bait ball" that attracts plenty more underwater wildlife in a massive feeding frenzy that we can enjoy from the peace of our seats.

The IMAX format can make almost any nature scene an impressive spectacle. But when the subject is as naturally fascinating as life out in that "Wild Ocean," that's a perfect use of the technology. Throw in the 3D that led one reviewer to talk about seeing a big shark "glide ... inches past your shoulder" and you have a movie that can help rescue even the rainiest beach day.
