Egg Harbor Township police car

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — An Absecon man trying to fix his car in the Walmart parking lot Tuesday afternoon was seriously injured when it fell on top of him, police said.

When officers arrived at 3:43 p.m., they found Joseph McGowan, 44, underneath his car, Lt. Robert Gray said in a statement Wednesday.

McGowan was trying to fix his Mercury Grand Marquis in the parking lot of the Walmart on the Black Horse Pike when it rolled off the jack and on top of him, Gray said.

He suffered serious injuries and was treated at the scene by the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare paramedics before being taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus.

Officer Robert Moran of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident.
