ATLANTIC CITY — Mayor Don Guardian was involved in a vehicle-pedestrian accident with a child Saturday afternoon, police said.

The accident was not avoidable, and Guardian was not given a summons, police said.

Police said officers responded at 3:20 p.m. to westbound Route 30 in front of the Highgate Apartments. Guardian had been driving west in his city-issued vehicle when a 7-year-old girl ran from the sidewalk, entered the road and struck the passenger rear door of the vehicle, police said.

The girl was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, with minor injuries, police said. Guardian was not injured, police said.

Officer Eric Wessler investigated the incident.
