He was a teacher at the Brigantine North School for 36 years.

“He was a respected member of the Beach Patrol,” said state Sen. Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic, a former colleague. “Our time on the patrol overlapped a little. He would often have the beaches that had the most tourists.”

McDevitt is survived by three sons, Bob, Michael and Joseph; and grandchildren Jennifer, Patrick, Matthew, James, Paul, Jocelyn and Robert.

A Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 2651 Atlantic Ave., in Atlantic City.
